As you read this, Becky and I will be swanning about on Australia’s Gold Coast. We managed to find a ridiculously low airfare and since Becky has never been to Australia, despite spending the past couple of years living ever-so-close to it, we simply had to do it. We spent our weekend working away on two guest strips for other comics, which we’ll link off to in the coming days, as well as a pin-up for Katie Rice’s new Skadi book.

We’re off on a quick trip to Australia in about ten days. Becky has never been, so we jumped at the opportunity. We then come back and spend the next month working to finish Chapter 2 (here’s a-hopin’) so we can release a little comic book in time for San Diego Comic Con! It’s a wee bit of a whirlwind, but we feel so fortunate to be able to do it at all!

And we’re back! After our 44 days on the road promoting the Tigerbuttah Golden Book, we are back at home in our little studio, working away on the next couple chapters of Tiny Kitten Teeth. Thanks for sticking with us this year while we made our little story-book and went upon our travels, new pages are just around the corner.

We also made a little mixtape for those who enjoy those sorts of things. It is full of rough sounding garage rock and roll this week!

It has been awhile, that’s for sure. We are currently in Portland, Oregon at the Stumptown Comics Festival. Today (Sunday the 25th) is the last day. I (Frank) just recovered from a quick bout of pneumonia, but I’m back in business.

This comic also comes courtesy of our amazing friend JFish, who scanned it for us, as we don’t have a scanner big enough to scan paintings when we are on the road. Thankyou so much JFish!!

This comic strip is inspired by our short time in Easthampton and the caption is of course incredibly ridiculous, coinciding with our current location.

Our next stop is TCAF, the Toronto Comic Arts Festival in Toronto on May 8th & 9th, if you are at all interested in meeting us! Then we’ll be back to finishing off Chapter 2! This is a piece for an upcoming show in Portland at the Pony Club Gallery. We’ll be at the closing party at the Stumptown Comic Convention, so hopefully we see you Portland folks there.

Also we’ll be on a further reduced schedule for the next month as Becky and I tour the US promoting and selling the Tigerbuttah Book. We release the book on April 2nd at WonderCon in San Francisco, then onto MoCCA in New York, C2E2 in Chicago and TCAF in Toronto!! We’ll continue to update, usually with weird little storybook pages, illustrations and gag strips. Also were you aware we have t-shirts at Topatoco? I know I talk about that a lot. It is of utmost importance!

Apologies for the recent bouts of silence, we had to finish the Tigerbuttah book! We are incredibly happy to announce that the book is complete, it is at the printers and provided all goes well we should have the books in time to launch at WonderCon in San Francisco!

The gallery show where we exhibited the Tigerbuttah book went incredibly well, with a huge turn-out and a wonderful performance by our good friends Bear Cat. We have some photos that we are collating and they will be posted here very shortly with a full round-up.

We’ve been clearing a lot of our non-Tiny Kitten Teeth related workload this week and it looks like we will be ready to return to Chapter 2 on Monday (Pacific Standard Time).

This is a special preview page of the Tigerbuttah Golden Book. Our Kickstarter is wrapping up in about 12 hours, so I thought I would take this opportunity to thank everyone for their overwhelming and generous support.

A startling array of backer-only updates will ensue while we spend the rest of this month finishing the book and getting ready for its gallery exhibitions (5th of February in Auckland, 5th of March in Wellington, more details soon). Storyline updates will be few until February, but I will hopefully post a couple more preview pages between now and then.

2009 was one of those years that I think will be hard to top, so I thought I would give a quick wrap-up of events that set this year apart from those previous.

First off, I’ve been living with the wonderful artist Becky Dreistadt for well over a year now and it has been nothing short of remarkable to work side by side with her every day.

In February of this year we launched Tiny Kitten Teeth and to say it has changed our lives is putting it very lightly.

In less than a year we’ve been fortunate enough to get to know the amazing creators of a number of our favorite comics, working on guest strips for Octopus Pie, Penny Arcade, PvP, Girls With Slingshots, Dr. McNinja, Shortpacked and Menage A 3.

Our self-published comic took us from New Zealand to conventions in New York, Charlotte and San Diego, where the book totally sold out.

We joined (and are about to leave) Keenspot.

We’ve raised over 7300 dollars through Kickstarter to self-publish the Tigerbuttah Golden Book.

In 2009, Becky has completed over one hundred paintings for Tiny Kitten Teeth, having only begun painting last year (after eight years of drawing extensively).

These accomplishments I can take no credit for. She had her first solo gallery show. She teamed up with Heroes scribe Oliver Grigsby and painted Penny Arcade’s Lookouts in a week, sitting on the floor of her mom’s bedroom in Virginia and over sleepless nights in the Atlanta Holiday Inn.

I couldn’t have dreamed this year would turn out in a better way and it is incredibly humbling to have received the support we have from our readers. In early 2010, I’ve taken on my last piece of contract work and will then dedicate the rest of the year to working on the comic.

I’d like to thank you all for your extensive support throughout 2009, you all never fail to bring a smile to my face every day. Thanks for making this happen for us.

I hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season. Becky and I are eagerly awaiting The Princess & The Frog, which isn’t released in New Zealand until New Year’s Eve. The tradition of an animated Disney film at Christmas is one that I’ve missed a huge amount.

On a more personal note, Becky and I are rather delighted that her medical and immigration ordeal has now concluded. Those who have been reading the comic for awhile noticed we took a short leave of absence a couple of months ago. It all began with an abnormal X-Ray as part of Becky’s New Zealand immigration examination. After a whole bunch of tests by specialists, it turned out it was absolutely nothing, which left us with the task of convincing those in charge that this was indeed the case.

Today, after months of waiting, we finally received her immigration VISA, which is as good a conclusion as we could have ever hoped for.

In short, our holidays are going pretty great right now.
